| Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility Forum |
| Date: 2008/06/25 |
| By: Lee and Li Foundation, College of Law, National Chengchi |
| Probing into views, theories and historical backgrounds of both positive and negative sides of corporate social responsibility will facilitate developments in the practices. Regardless of whether a company shall have social responsibility, in terms of legislation, the Company Law shall add more specific provisions with regard to corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions. Recently, there are many scandals regarding defalcation of big companies. When we observe Taiwan or Mainland China through American experience, we realize large-scale companies having social economic power have emerged, the merger era has come, therefore, maybe it is the time to face topic of corporate social responsibility. |

As the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act began the process of deliberation in the Legislative Yuan, this forum brought together representatives from Taiwan’s governmental, industrial, academic, and research sectors for an exchange of ideas on energy, climate change, and greenhouse gases. The aim of the event was to enhance the understanding of corporate leaders regarding the risk of greenhouse gases and the management of carbon assets so that the sustainable management of energy, climate change, and greenhouse gases can be integrated progressively into corporate management strategies with the hope of grasping carbon advantages more fully in this new age of innovation in energy technology, and of enhancing the “green?productivity of Taiwan’s industries. At the same time, the broad range of opinions from all sectors that was collected during the summit will help the government to establish a business environment that is more responsive to the challenges and opportunities posed by energy and climate changes. |

| 2006 Clean Production and Sustainable Development Symposium |
| Date: 2006/11/24 |
| By: Organizer: Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA |
| Based on the principle that the environment is the common property of all mankind, a succession of international conventions and standards on protecting the quality of the environment and the balance of the ecology have been signed in recent years. In addition, environmental protection is converging with the market mechanism through such means as the UE’s WEEE/RoHS/EuP and other directives.
Clean production can upgrade the efficiency of energy use and reduce environmental impact, thus conforming to environmental protection laws and international standards, and enhancing green competitiveness. The Industrial Development Bureau of the MOEA has promoted clean production vigorously in recent years, helping enterprises to meet international environmental protection demands and pursue sustainable development. Thanks to the efforts of the governmental, industrial, and academic, and research sectors, concrete results have been achieved in the promotion of clean production in Taiwan. The Industrial Development Bureau organized this symposium to give the relevant sectors a chance to exchange information on their experiences, and results, in clean production.
The symposium included keynote speeches, paper presentations, poster presentations, briefings on the results of guidance work, and an exhibition of related technology and equipment.
